When did you last try a new sex position? Whether or not you're in a relationship, it's all too easy to fall back on a handful of tried-and-tested moves and forget the delicious variety available to you and your partner.

That's where Clare Cavanah and Rachel Venning come in. They're not only the founders of sex toy boutique and educational hub Babeland, they're the authors of Moregasm: Babeland's Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex. With insight into everything from BDSM to birth control, Moregasm is an expert (yet relatable) roadmap to your best-ever sex life.

The book's inclusive, deftly illustrated guides to manual, oral, vaginal, and anal sex positions are our favorite part. We're thrilled to share them with you here, beginning with Cavanah and Venning's step-by-step suggestions for vaginal sex and then adding ideas for other forms of play each month. (And if you just can't wait, you can purchase the book, here). Some positions may be old favorites, others variations on classics, and still others completely new to you. Combined, they might just make for your best sex yet. Click through for the good stuff.

Careful With The Balls!

"This image is a do-not-do example. By all means, tickle and gently fondle the balls, but don’t squeeze unless you are explicitly told to do so!"
Reach Around

“A perfect way to surprise him while he’s doing the dishes.”Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Romance A-Go-Go

"Remember, you don’t have to limit your hand job to hand and cock alone. Bring in all those other tools, such as boobs, mouth, tongue, and nipples."
The Bend-Over
"She’s on her hands and knees while you reach through from behind. A perfect opportunity for tickling her ass to boot."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren.
Leg Reversal
"Hold your legs straight and together while the penetrative partner opens up their legs around yours. It takes a little more work to get the penis or dildo into the V, but then it’s a nice tight feeling."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Anal Reverse Cowgirl/Cowboy
"Facing away might be a better angle for penetration. (Not as good for eye contact, obviously.)"Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Octopus
"Hands and legs are wrapping around her while you polish her pearl. Feels like a nice big bear hug combined with an equally lovely hand job."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Anal Missionary
"The bottom person's legs are in the air, presenting the butt to the sky (and partner). The top person controls the movement and penetration, but the bottom person has decent control over the angle."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Anal Doggy Style
"The penetrate-ee (bottom) can have their torso upright (like kneeling in prayer) or across (on all fours) or down (chest on bed). The bottom has some control over depth and angle of penetration. The top has a great view and a lot of control."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Anal Cowgirl/Cowboy
"In this anal sex position, one person straddles the penetrator and inserts the penis or dildo as if they were sitting on a fencepost. While the cowpoke is getting poked, they can control the angle and the movement. Good for eye contact."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Assisted Missionary
"Put a pillow or two under your butt or under your lower back. This will tilt your pelvis up to better match the natural angle of the penis or dildo. This is also nice if you suffer from back pain."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Power Up
"Add hands-free vibration to the fun. The wearable We-Vibe (which stimulates the clit and the G-spot and is made to be worn during intercourse) or a vibrating penis ring can provide the clit stimulation that the missionary position sometimes denies."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Life On The Edge
"Lie down on your back at the edge of the bed, with your thighs and legs dangling off. Bend your knees and put your feet on the ground. Your partner stands or kneels between your legs and enters you. Your partner gets a great view and control of a deep thrust. You get to kick back and enjoy."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Butt Lift
"Put your ankles on your partner's shoulders. This will lift your butt in the air. Your partner can hold your butt or your legs, and can kiss and massage your feet. Your partner has total control over the thrusting. Not great for stimulating the clit."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Scissors
"You and your partner are making a scissor shape, with your partner's leg between one of yours and the other outside it. Lots of pressure on your mons makes this position a cut above."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Reverse Cowgirl
"Kneel and straddle your partner, facing the other direction. You can put your arms in front of you and lean on your partner's knees, or you can arch and lean back on your arms behind you. This does not allow easy eye contact, but you get a lot of control."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Flying Buttress
"This is for show-offs. Your partner is on top but facing away from you, head at your feet. Entry can be difficult from this angle. You can tilt your pelvis up to help the cause. For some, this is enjoyable. For others, it requires too much flexibility."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Limbo Like Me
"If you are flexible enough, lean back so your head is between your partner's ankles. Then, your partner holds your hips to control the thrusting. This helps the penis hit the G-spot. Anybody's free hand (or vibe!) can rub the clit."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Raised Doggy
"Your partner kneels or stands behind you and enters you. Your thighs can be apart with your partner's thighs inside yours. If your partner's strong, they can (after penetration) lift and hold one or both of your legs — like a sexy wheelbarrow."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Supported Doggy
"You kneel by the side of the bed, facing it and bracing your arms against the mattress. Your partner kneels behind you. All the fun of regular doggy, but with solid support."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Tired Doggy
"You lie face down with one or two pillows under your pelvis, so your butt tilts up. Your partner lies on top of you and enters you from behind with legs either between or outside of yours. You have little control, but it sure is restful!"Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Side Roll
"Your partner lies on their side, leaning back a little, legs apart. You lie in front, backing onto the penis or dildo. Your thighs are together and resting between your partner's thighs. You can also get here by starting in Reverse Cowgirl, unbending your knees, and sending your legs out straight in front of you. And everyone tilts to the side."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Taking The L Train
"Your partner lies on their side. You lie on your side at a 90-degree angle, forming an L with your partner's body. Your chest faces the headboard. You bend your legs and put your knees over your partner's shoulders, your butt against the penis or dildo. Your partner enters you from there. Or, try the variation pictured, where you're on your back."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Liftoff
"Your partner is standing and holds you by the butt as you straddle them. It takes a lot of strength. For greater ease and fun, your partner can hoist your butt on the kitchen counter (or washing machine or desk)."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Standing Doggy
"You stand and face away. Your partner enters you from behind. This position is tough if you are of different heights. A possible solution? Sexy high heels on the shorter partner. Or, you can get on all fours at the edge of the bed. Your partner stands and enters you from behind."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Yogi
"Your partner sits up in bed (legs our or cross-legged) and, facing them, you sit on their lap, legs astride or around them. You can also transition to this from Cowgirl if your partner sits up and you straighten your legs. Great for closeness and kissing, since your chests come together in a hug. Arms are free. It takes some torso strength to stay upright."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Sidesaddle
"This works well on an armchair. You sit on your partner's lap, but ride sidesaddle instead of astride. You move yourself up and down with your arms or your legs, if they reach the floor."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Recliner
"Man lies down on his back. Giver lies between his legs. Good for visuals and eye contact. Can be rough on the neck."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Face Sitter For Her
The licked straddles the face of the licker, giving the like lots of fun control and good visuals. Make sure the person on the bottom can breathe! It can be hard so come while holding yourself up - try placing your hands on the wall at the edge or top of the bed and coming will be easier.Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Confessional
"Man sits on chair, couch, or edge of bed. Giver kneels between his legs. Good for giver’s neck."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Elevator
"He stands, giver kneels. (Think Glenn Close and Michael Douglas elevator scene — pre-bunny — in Fatal Attraction.) Feels very subservient, which can be positive or negative, depending on how you feel."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Face-Sitter
"Giver lies on back. The man straddles giver’s face and puts his penis in his or her mouth. This provides the blower very little control, but it’s also less work. Do this with someone you trust."
The Face-Sitter
"Giver lies on back. The man straddles giver’s face and puts his penis in his or her mouth. This provides the blower very little control, but it’s also less work. Do this with someone you trust."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The “Howdy!”
"Man lies on his back. The giver straddles him upside-down, with giver’s feet by the man’s head. Man gets up-close view of the ass — he can finger the asshole and tender parts or return the favor with some 69."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Recliner For Her
"The classic cunnilingus pose is when she reclines and you lie on your stomach with your head between her open legs. It creates nice visuals for her and makes for easy eye contact. The only downside is that your neck doesn’t like it after a while."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Little Prayer
"You’re kneeling at the edge of the bed while she sits or lies back, facing you with legs open."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The S-Curve
"She lies on her right side, halfway curled up. You lie on your left side facing her, farther down, with your head to her muff. The two of you form a big S from above. Great for the neck, bad for eye contact."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Face-Sitter For Her
"The lick-ee straddles the face of the licker, giving the lick-ee lots of fun control and good visuals. Make sure the person on the bottom can breathe! It can be hard so come while holding yourself up — try placing your hands on the wall at the edge or top of the bed."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
The Light Switch
"Use your first two fingers or just your middle finger to lightly slide up and down her vag like you are flipping a light switch. Start by going up and down the labia and just inside the vaginal opening. You can try it lightly on her clit too."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Palm Sunday
"This is good if she loves to masturbate with indirect external pressure (a.k.a. humping things). Place your whole palm over her mons and massage in small, steady circles. Make sure there is contact and pressure just above the clit."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
All Thumbs
"Cradle the penis with both hands, so your thumbs meet over the frenulum (that is, where the head meets the shaft on the underside). Give a gentle massage to the frenulum with both of your thumbs."Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren
Milking It
"Grasp around the base and slide your hand up and off the tip. Then grab at the base and slide up again. Repeat, as if you are milking a cow. As one recipient put it, 'This feels like an endless vagina!’"Image: Courtesy of Anders Wenngren

Can A Face Mask Actually Prevent You From Getting Coronavirus?

$

A recent outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in China is causing wide-spread paranoia as new cases are popping up all over the world. Right now, a confirmed 7,000+ people are currently diagnosed with the virus, and a cruise ship in Italy is even on lock down for fear that passengers may have contracted coronavirus. As a result of all this chaos, people are even panicking enough to stream Contagion for answers, and even more people have began taking precautions in hopes of preventing contracting this. Between coronavirus and the current “super flu” season in the U.S., there’s been a surge of mask-wearers. Which prompts the question: are those face masks really doing anything to help?

There’s still not reliable or confirmed information on how contagious the virus really is or whether it’s possible to spread from person-to-person before symptoms start developing, which is why Americans have started wearing the masks in the first place. New reports show that the masks are sold out in many shops and pharmacies across the New York area, and there’s even been a surge in interest in fashion-forward, “designer” respirator masks like these from Vogmask. But, these masks aren’t necessarily preventing the contraction of viruses.

Most masks are paper-based, surgical masks designed to prevent visible sprays or splashes of fluids – they don’t include a respirator to actually filter out infectious air particles. On the other hand, the N95 mask (the most common respirator and available to the public at medical supply shops) can filter at least 95% of airborne particles – but can it stop the spread of the coronavirus?

A 2014 study conducted after the SARS outbreak showed inconclusive results on the effectiveness of wearing a mask or protective heavy-duty respirator. “Inconsistent results were found in the systematic review evaluating studies on respiratory protection,” states the 2014 report.

The reason for the limiting conclusions was due to “poor methodological quality” and also the variables between infection prevention and control measures between countries (China and Canada, for example). There were also “no studies identified for this report that compared different types of respirators, limiting the conclusions to the specific N95 respirators examined in the included studies.” The other drawback is the N95 must be worn tightly over the nose and mouth to create a seal over the face so that air can’t leak in – which can be uncomfortable for many.

According to NPR, wearing a mask outdoors in public isn’t necessary if you’re in the U.S. or another country with a low-risk of catching the coronavirus. But wearing a surgical mask is a good idea if you already have a respiratory illness, so as not to infect others. Wearing a mask in public also comes with an alarmist factor – it can manufacture a sense of public panic, which can then lead to mask shortages for those who really need them (healthcare professionals, for instance).

As far as the coronavirus goes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is “closely monitoring” the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by the new virus (formally called 2019-nCoV) which was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. There are currently 165 patients in the U.S. under investigation for the virus, and 20 other international locations with confirmed cases.

While it’s unclear whether the masks actually work, there’s a reason why they’re used in hospitals. At the very least, any mask will help reduce the amount of times your touch you face – and that alone can potentially make a big difference – at least until scientists can better understand the impact and prevention of this new infection. But for now, it’s perhaps just as important to practice good hygiene, wash your hands properly and frequently, while limiting contact to the face, nose, and eyes.

It doesn't matter if you're a sneaker freak or a tennis shoe newb, shopping for sneakers can be overwhelming. There’s a rainbow spectrum of styles with a surplus of new releases every week. The sheer glorious bloat of options is driven by the ever-growing popularity and cultural significance of sneakers within fashion circles, amongst athletes, sports fans, musicians, and anyone who simply wants to loaf around in comfort.

A fresh purchase is not just about sussing out the biggest drops (although we don’t blame you if you were mad you couldn’t get your hands on another Off-White x Nike collaboration). It doesn’t matter how rare or popular your next kicks are — if you love them or the story behind them, they’re a purchase worth making.

To help you find your dream pair of the most comfortable shoes ever (sneakers!) we're sharing the places you can shop for the best deals, curated selections of releases, rare finds, and exclusive collaborations. Whether you buy new or resale, these are the sites to open in your tabs.

Stadium Goods

Bodega

Bodega is a concept store that first opened in Boston with a fun twist — the store was hidden, giving off the vibe of a speakeasy but for sneakers and apparel. One has to find the store in a semi-functional bodega. Now, there’s a location in LA, but you can also shop their site online if you can’t make it to (or find) a store. They offer a large selection of sneakers that go beyond Nike and Adidas but also include brands such as Karhu, Hoka One One, and exclusive collaborations with Vans, Clarks, and more.

Their site is also worth exploring to learn more about their special releases and store events.

StockX

One of the biggest players in the resale market, StockX is proud to say it’s the first stock market for things, offering a live “bid/ask” marketplace. Sellers can accept any price that a buyer bids, or buyers can purchase right away at a seller’s lowest ask. This is what makes buying on StockX fun. The best part is that StockX authenticates to make sure you receive only real products. You can buy watches, designer handbags, and various collectibles as well.

Nike Blazer Mid 77 Vintage Multi-Color, $, available at StockX

Grailed

If there’s a specific pair of sneakers you’re searching for, and it feels impossible to obtain, you may consider it your grail. Hence the name of one of the biggest consignment sites, Grailed. Buyers get protection when they purchase through Grailed with PayPal, so this includes refunds if an item wasn’t shipped. Unproven sellers must provide photos of details to ensure they have the product.

MIAMI, FLORIDA – JANUARY 30: Jennifer Lopez speaks onstage during the Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show Press Conference at Hilton Miami Downtown on January 30, 2020 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic)

We don’t expect anything less than booty-shaking, blinged-out, and over-the-top from Jennifer Lopez’s performance during the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show, and we’re holding her Super Bowl glam to the same high standards. But before we could even gather around our TVs with friends and nachos to fawn over her performance, she’s already showing out in the beauty department.

Lopez attended a Super Bowl press conference today looking characteristically stunning, but… different. Instead of her usual waist-length strands, Lopez’s hair was cut into a midlength crop just a few inches below her shoulders. Her go-to stylist, Chris Appleton, styled her ends in the loose, flipped-out curls that are already on trend watch for 2020.

This isn’t Lopez’s first significant hair change of the new decade: A few weeks ago, the star added extra blonde highlights to her already-light hair following news of her Oscar snub for her role in Hustlers. Whether that move was a purposeful response as some fans speculated, we can’t say for sure, but we do know one thing: By the looks of this pre-Super Bowl style, we’re in for a glamorous treat come Sunday.

Taylor Swift Opens Up About Her Disordered Eating & How She Copes In Miss Americana

One of the most impactful moments in Taylor Swift’s new Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, which came to Netflix Friday morning, occurs when she’s riding in the backseat of a car, getting candid about how she’s coped with her disordered eating.

Throughout the documentary, Swift returns again and again to her desire to please people and be liked. “I became the person everyone wanted me to be,” she says. Those tendencies also seem to inform her relationship with her body and food.

In addition to talking about the factors that played a role in exacerbating her disordered eating, the “Lover” singer also shared how she’s been able to work through her issues.

Here are some of the strategies Swift says she now uses to stay healthy.

Tap into self talk.

“So this would cause me to go into a real shame, like, hate spiral [Swift pulls up a picture of herself on her phone]. This. And like I caught myself yesterday start to do it, and I was like: Nope. We don’t do that anymore. We do not do that anymore… We’re changing the channel in our brain, and we’re not doing that anymore. That didn’t end us up in a good place.” – Taylor Swift

Why it works: Self talk is very helpful, explains TJ Mocci, MFT, a certified eating disorder specialist who manages the eating disorder program for Kaiser Permanente in Oakland. “It’s almost a cognitive therapy approach to change behavior,” she says. “We encourage patients to come up with self-talk that works for them.” There are a few affirmations Mocci suggests that can help you focus on the future during negative moments: “Look how much better my life is now” or “Think about how miserable that person in the photo really was.”

Avoid upsetting media.

“I’ve learned over the years, it’s not good for me to see pictures of myself every day… Because I have a tendency — and it’s only happened a few times, and I’m not in any way proud of it — I tend to get triggered by something… and I’ll just starve. I’ll just stop eating.”   Taylor Swift

Why it works: It’s important for people in recovery to edit their media intake, Mocci says. “Social media can often trigger a relapse. We tell our patients that if there are postings or people that make you uncomfortable, you should unfollow or unfriend.” With other media, Mocci suggests staying away from gossip magazines and filtering what you see on TV — especially if you’re feeling vulnerable one day. “Protect yourself and avoid triggers,” she says.

Focus on feeling good.

“I thought that I was just like supposed to feel like I was going to pass out at the end of a show or in the middle of it… I thought that was how it was. Now I realize, no, if you eat food, have energy, get stronger, you can do all these shows and not feel it. Which is a really good revelation. Because I’m a lot happier with who I am.” Taylor Swift

Why it works: “When Taylor thinks about her future health, and compares how she feels when she’s getting proper nutrition versus when she’s not, it’s a great way for her to see the immediate improvement and benefits of nutritious eating,” explains Kristin Wilson, a licensed professional counselor and vice president of clinical outreach for Newport Academy, a mental health rehabilitation facility for teens and young adults. “Positive statements ultimately can help create a more positive mindset.”

DashDividers_1_500x100

This isn’t the first time Swift has spoken publicly about body image. The Artist of the Decade also recently opened up to Variety about how commentary about her body coming from fans and trolls contributed to her disordered eating.

“My relationship with food was exactly the same psychology that I applied to everything else in my life: If I was given a pat on the head, I registered that as good. If I was given a punishment, I registered that as bad,” she told Variety. “I remember how, when I was 18, that was the first time I was on the cover of a magazine,” she says. “And the headline was like ‘Pregnant at 18?’ And it was because I had worn something that made my lower stomach look not flat. So I just registered that as a punishment.”

Wilson hopes that Swift’s candid words on this topic will de-stigmatize eating disorders and encourage young people to seek out professional help if they need it. Around 30 million people in the U.S. will experience an eating disorder at some point in their lives, according to National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA)

“Taylor has such an enormous following and is a role model for so many people, and when her fans see her speaking out about something this personal, they relate to her,” says Wilson. “Others can see a first-hand example of someone who struggled but more importantly was able to recognize the issue and overcome it. Many people with eating disorders often do not speak out because they feel a sense of shame or self-blame.”

If you are struggling with an eating disorder and are in need of support, please call the National Eating Disorders Association Helpline at 1-800-931-2237. For a 24-hour crisis line, text “NEDA” to 741741.

New Music To Know This Week: Eve Owen & Mai Kino Take A Dip & Other Great Songs

$

Ever since my first job at MTV working as a music programmer, I can’t stop trying to match people with music they might like. So, I wrote a book called Record Collecting for Girls and started interviewing musicians. The Music Concierge is a column where I share music I’m listening to that you might enjoy, with a little context. Get everything I’ve recommended this year on Spotify, follow me on Twitter or Facebook, and leave a comment below telling me what you’re listening to this week.

Eve Owen “So Still For You”

The English coastline and folk music go together like my anxiety and chocolate. Londoner Eve Owen takes us out to the countryside to sing a gorgeous, sad song that she explains is her way of making the fleeting nature of her love into a permanent thing. If anyone has ever written a song about you, then you know that’s a story that will exist indefinitely. Hopefully, it’s on par with this one.

Mai Kino “Swim”

If you need something soothing on your playlist, look no further. If this is what being in a sensory deprivation tank of water feels like, I need to dunk myself in it immediately. Until then, I’ll just be baptizing my anxiety with this track on repeat.

Reva DeVito “Bet You Stay”

To change, erm, streams — here’s a track to add to your makeout/seduction playlist. The confidence DeVito brings to her vocals is a real mood and that early ’80s disco/pop beat is the flashing light that dares you to make a move. This is a fun one, let yourself go.

Raveena “Headaches”

Sometimes you don’t go looking for love, it just finds you. Raveena captures the sticky sweetness of that feeling in her track, but also hits on the hangover that comes with it. There’s something so Summer of Love about the guitars and zen about the song but still a hint of fear in the way she sings about it. Love is scary and wonderful and all those things at once — Raveena does a good job of expressing a myriad of feels.

DAWN “Die Without You”

Give me feelings, but make it dark. DAWN sings a song of codependency, and you know something is just a little off about this relationship because of the bassline. But wouldn’t it be great to know with that kind of certainty that you’re going to be with someone forever? Or…maybe not.

Not Ready To Ditch Meat? You Could Try A “Flexitarian” Diet

$

Wellness trends aren’t all bad. I love hearing about new supernutrients to add to my smoothies, cool workout crazes to try, and more effective ways to meditate. And the latest health fads all seem to have one thing in common: They focus, at least in part, on sustainability.

Take the carbon diet. It’s all about eating in an earth-conscious way and avoiding foods that create the biggest carbon footprint. Spoiler alert — that tends to be meat and animal products. But if going full-on vegetarian or vegan seems a little intimidating though (same), there’s another option, called flexitarianism.

According to Dawn Jackson Blatner, RD, who coined the term, it’s a portmanteau of “flexible” and “vegetarian.” The rules are simple — in that there really aren’t any. The general idea is that you aim to eat more plants and less meat. But there are no specific ratios to hit, or any limitations whatsoever on what or when you eat.

This flexible approach to eating means you can still enjoy everything you like without feeling guilty about harming the Earth, says Mascha Davis MPH, RDN, founder of NomadistaNutrition.com and author of the newly released book Eat Your Vitamins. And that actually makes flexitarianism easier to stick with long-term.

“We can only really maintain that distance from [the food we crave] for so long before we eventually just say, Screw it, throw our hands up, and allow ourselves to have it,” Cara Harbstreet, MS, RD, LD, of Street Smart Nutrition, previously told Refinery29. If you’re always allowed to eat your favorite food (say, steak), you never have that moment where you feel like you’re “quitting” or “failing” by giving in and cooking up a New York strip. You’re just choosing to have something that makes you feel good.

Generally speaking, eating more plants means taking in more fiber, more antioxidants, and more nutrients, Davis points out. Research into plant-based diets and other similar ways of eating seems to indicate that it’s not harmful to your body, as long as you’re getting enough nutrients.

“If you’re cutting out meat and animal products, make sure to monitor levels of nutrients such as B12 and iron,” Davis suggests. Animal products are rich in these, so you’ll want to make sure you’re getting enough of them while building up your plant intake. Your doctor can test your levels and recommend a good supplement if you’re ever unsure that you’re getting enough from food alone.

Dunkaroos Are Coming Back This Summer & We Can’t Wait

This story was originally published on January 31st, additional reporting was added.

A snack for the ages. A snack for the gods. Prince had a whole secret stash of them, and Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian have both expressed a desire to revive them. In fact, there are whole entire internet groups dedicated to bringing back Dunkaroos.

Well, 2020 is the year it will finally happen. Earlier on Friday, junk food fan accounts and Instagram users alike spotted a brand new account pop up on Instagram. Dunkaroos joined Instagram, a move that many interpreted as a sign of the product’s return to store shelves. Then this Monday morning, the newly minted-Twitter account announced the snack’s return is slated for the summer of 2020.

In true food brand Twitter fashion, the first post on the Dunkaroos verified Instagram account is a close-up of the much-missed icing dotted with rainbow sprinkles, with a very minimal caption consisting of only the side-eye emoji. Is this a shy-cute way of saying hello? It sure is.

The brand also launched its Twitter page this month, kicking 2020 off to a very promising start — at least when it comes to snacks.

Refinery29 had reached out to Dunkaroos’ parent company on Friday, General Mills, and a spokesperson declined to comment on the return of Dunkaroos but assured Refinery29 that General Mills has a lot of exciting things coming up in 2020. This morning, the spokesperson confirmed that this summer would see the return of the beloved snack in it’s most iconic flavor, Vanilla Cookies and Vanilla Frosting with Rainbow Sprinkles.

Back in 2018, what was later determined to be a fake tweet depicting a (fabricated) direct message exchange between a Dunkaroos fan and the official Betty Crocker page launched a social media campaign for the return of Dunkaroos. In said exchange, Betty Crocker’s Twitter account allegedly said it would take 150,000 retweets to bring back the snack. One of these 150,000 retweets included Kim Kardashian herself. Sadly, it was later proven to have never happened. But you could’ve had a Canadian ship them to you.

Should they make a comeback this year, we are confident that Dunkaroos will have a place in Kim Kardashian’s fully vegan diet and ethically package-free kitchen, because Dunkaroos are the quintessential symbol of ‘90s nostalgia. And given the youth of today’s love of all things ‘80s and ‘90s – from synthwave music to old school anime – this sugary pastel dream of a snack fits perfectly into our vibe-conscious, aesthetically-driven lives. E-girls and VSCO girls can agree on the snack’s everlasting appeal. So excuse us while we bop to some 80’s remixes of today’s pop songs and revel in the nostalgia loop we deserve.

Supergoop Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40

"Knowing how delicate the undereye area is, I was excited to give this eye cream with SPF a try in hopes of adding it to my routine — and, well, it's earned a permanent spot. Not only am I happy to be taking an extra step in sun protection, but this formula actually makes an immediate difference in brightening once you swipe it on. No lie, I can look like I had a good night's rest even if I was up watching Cheer until 3 a.m." — Thatiana Diaz, senior beauty writer

Supergoop! Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40, $, available at Sephora

Kinship Self Reflect

“I threw this mineral sunscreen in my carry-on bag for a long weekend in Florida and came back to NYC three days later without even a hint of a sunburn (which is saying a lot, because my fair skin goes pink just thinking about direct sunlight). Where other zinc oxide sunscreens are like liquid chalk, this one could actually pass for an illuminating moisturizer — lightweight, with a pink pearlescent tint that left my skin glowing. Oh, and the palm-sized tube is made from 100% PCP (post-consumer packaging)." — Megan Decker, beauty writer

Kinship Self Reflect, $, available at Kinship

Drunk Elephant F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask

“This night cream is deceptively hydrating. The texture is bouncy and light, almost like a cooling gel, but really locks in moisture and wards against pillow lines while I sleep (on my stomach and without a humidifier, nonetheless)." — Decker

Drunk Elephant Drunk Elephant F-Balm™ Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask, $, available at Sephora

Dior Lip Glow Oil

“This is a cross between a gloss and an oil, but more so the latter because it’s not sticky at all. The orange-red color that shows in the bottle is practically nonexistent once it's on — after using the plush, chubby doe-foot applicator to spread it on my lips, they’re just shiny, moisturized, and faintly plump. Plus, the sweet peppermint scent is a real treat.” — Decker

Dior Lip Glow Oil, $, available at Sephora

NudeStix Magnetic Lip Plush Paints

“I subscribe to the off-label use for this matte lipstick: Instead of wearing it as lip color, I dab the warm coral pigment on the apples of my cheeks, across the bridge of my nose, and as a wash of color over my eyelids." — Decker

NudeStix Magnetic Lip Plush Paints, $, available at NudeStix

Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer

"I’ve always wanted to be the kind of person who sums up their beauty routine as, 'I just swipe on some brow gel, put some concealer under my eyes, and dash out the door!' This creamy full-coverage concealer has made it possible — though it is also possible that I am cheating, given that I use the formula the way you would a foundation, swiping it anywhere and everywhere I might want some coverage before blending in with a damp sponge. The liquid covers everything (zits, dark circles, redness, the works) but leaves skin looking completely fresh and natural all day long without creasing or getting cakey." — Rachel Krause, deputy beauty director

Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer, $, available at Sephora

Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense

"The average number of times per day I take a deep whiff of my sweater sleeve has increased exponentially since I started wearing this rich, smoky fragrance. I don’t usually love vanilla-heavy scents, but you can actually smell the difference in this Madagascan bourbon vanilla, which has elements of sweetness rather than being all-around saccharine. Anyway, it’s delicious, and warm and woodsy and all the things a great winter perfume should be." — Krause

Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense, $, available at Jo Malone

January Labs Triple Active Reclaiming Serum

"While I'm aware of the importance of using safe ingredients where possible, I am not bound to it — which is to say that a 'clean retinol' (make of that verbiage what you will) wasn't exactly at the top of my list of Things I Need. But here we are, and I'm fully hooked on this very gentle yet wildly effective serum that combines potent stabilized retinol, niacinamide, and vitamin C with aloe and sea whip extract to minimize dryness and irritation. As someone prone to both dryness and irritation, I've experienced neither of these things while using this serum — which I have been, every other night, and have reaped the smooth, glowy, bouncy, perfectly balanced benefits." — Krause

January Labs Triple Active Reclaiming Serum, $, available at Credo

Maybelline Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush

"I'm a big fan of cream blushes because of the way they melt into my complexion without enhancing any dry patches. Maybelline's new Cheek Heat blushes were in heavy rotation during the Golden Globes earlier this month, and I knew I had to pick one up. Yes, the tube is itty bitty, but you actually only need a dot of product to get a fresh flush that looks like it's au naturel. And at $8? I'll be stocking up." — Karina Hoshikawa, beauty & wellness market writer

Maybelline Maybelline Cheek Heat Gel-Cream Blush, $, available at Ulta

Youth To The People Superfood Air Whip Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer

"It's not how I'd usually describe a moisturizer, but since there's no other way to convey the texture of this cream, I'm just going to say that it's plush. My oily, acne-prone skin drinks this stuff up, and the hydrating and antioxidant benefits from kale, spinach, and green tea help soothe and keep irritation at bay." — Hoshikawa

Youth To The People Superfood Air Whip Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizer, $, available at Sephora

Tarte SEA Surfer Curl Volumizing Mascara

"My lashes are naturally dark, long, and curled (thanks, parents!), so when it comes to a mascara, I'm looking for a formula that lengthens and defines without clumping or weighing them down. Tarte's new Surfer Curl mascara does everything I need by transforming my lashes into fluffy, feathery things of wonder while being easy to remove, gentle, and 100% vegan." — Hoshikawa

Tarte SEA Surfer Curl Volumizing Mascara, $, available at Sephora

Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer

"It doesn't make sense that a product this thin and undetectable can cover acne scars and dark circles better than my thickest cream concealer, but I'm not about to argue with it." — Cat Quinn, beauty director

Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Concealer, $, available at Sephora

Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss

"My lips are in a constant state of cracked this time of year, making my lip routine an exciting rotation of Aquaphor, Aquaphor, and more Aquaphor. But when I want to wear something a little sexier, and a little less medical-grade, this moisturizing gloss blurs out all the cracks and flakes and makes them look human again." — Quinn

Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss, $, available at Sephora

Smith & Cult Locked & Lit CBD Lip Balm

"Lip balm, at least for me, is either wonderfully amazing or truly terrible. This new formula from Smith & Cult is all the things I love: It's rich and soothing, doesn't dry out my lips, and has a nifty little mirror in the cap that makes topping lipstick with balm a little less messy." — Lexy Lebsack, senior beauty editor

Smith & Cult Locked & Lit CBD Lip Balm, $, available at Ulta Beauty

Orly Birds of Prey Limited Edition Kit

"It all started on Instagram when I saved this soft yellow half-dip, which led to an obsession with this abstract art, and finally, a desire to replicate these electric yellow tips. But here's the thing: I don't want yellow nails for three weeks, so instead of my usual gels, I've been hunting for the perfect bright polish. This month, my Goldilocks-like quest concluded when I found Orly's new limited-edition kit for Harley Quinn Birds of Prey. This yellow is absurdly bright (in the best way) and perfectly opaque; plus, the bright pink in the kit is just as great for a trendy French tip." — Lebsack

Orly Birds of Prey Limited Edition Kit, $, available at Orly

Herbivore Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum

"First off, this might be the most beautiful bottle I’ve ever brought into the bathroom (and proof you don’t need layers of extraneous plastic to make a serum) but it’s what it does to my skin that has me floored. Bright, soft, glowy — this is how my skin looks after using it for just one night, and repeated use only compounds the results. I’m hooked after just one week." — Lebsack

Herbivore Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum , $, available at Sephora

Ole Henriksen Truth Juice Daily Cleanser

"Before I sip my morning coffee, I slather my face in this gel cleanser, which is like a tall glass of OJ in a tube. The formula is full of orange extract and PHAs, which gently buff off old makeup and dead skin. A few circular motions in, my skin feels brighter and super clean. Its juicy citrus scent also helps to get me out of the shower and to the office every morning." — Aimee Simeon, beauty writer

OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Juice Daily Cleanser, $, available at Sephora

Naturopathica Pumpkin Purifying Enzyme Peel

"I'm usually skeptical of whether or not skin care that touts natural ingredients works, but this mask has shut me up. I smeared it all over my face fully prepared for my skin to remain dull and dry when I wiped it off, but my results were the opposite. My skin was 100% more glowy and was supple to touch. It even got me a few random compliments from my dad, who, a few hours after I used this, told me I looked smooth and glowy. Thanks, dad." — Simeon

The “Wellness” Barbies Are Here And I Have A Lot Of Feelings About Them

$

Growing up as an only child in a small town, I had a phase during which Barbie was my best friend, role model, and confidant. I hoped someday that I, like Barbie, could be a veterinarian-slash-astronaut, live in a dream house, and ride horses at my stables on the weekends — when I wasn’t flying somewhere lavish on my pink jet. For better or worse, I wanted what Barbie had.

Those days are long gone, but I still couldn’t help but be intrigued when I heard the news that Mattel was launching a “Barbie Wellness Collection” to help “introduce girls to the benefits of self-care through play.”

As a journalist who’s been covering health and wellness for a few years, my first thought was: Wow, finally I beat Barbie to a trend. My second thought? If they’re selling a yoni egg accessory, I’m out.

Still, when I saw the actual Barbies. I was transported back in time 20 years, and I could just see myself in a Walmart aisle, crying to my mother: I WANT ONE.

The new collection is chic — if a little surreal. One very specific doll called “Breathe With Me Barbie” caught my eye. Her legs bend to let her sit cross-legged on the floor in a meditation pose. She’s wearing sick, cloud-covered PJs that I myself would love to own. And get this: When you press on her necklace, she will guide you through one of five meditation exercises.

“The collection teaches girls daily routines that promote emotional well-being and includes three key themes: meditation, physical well-being, and self-care; because Barbie knows to be one’s best is to give yourself the best care,” Mattel explains a press release obtained by Cosmopolitan

The other dolls are cool, too. Barbie Fitness Doll comes with a yoga mat. (Knowing Barbie, I assume it’s Lululemon.) There’s Barbie Spa Doll, who loves to “soak away the day with spa and bath products that include a rubber duck, magazine, bath brush, towel, box of bath bombs and candle.” As a New Yorker without a bathtub, this Barbie just made me jealous.

Reading up on these new, Goop-ified Barbies brought me back to the old days of wanting to be Barbie — a phase I thought I’d moved past. It made me wonder if Barbie was doing what she’s always done to me and other kids: setting unrealistic expectations for what life is really like.

That’s not all bad. After all, kids shouldn’t have to worry about what happens to your bank account when you impulse blow thousands on a wellness retreat to the Maldives. And if Barbie can really encourage some kid to sit down and follow a guided meditation, more power to her. But there is something about living the “dream life” that stays with you and warps you a bit.

That’s why I’m a little concerned about Barbie’s new foray into wellness. Self-care doesn’t have to mean going to the spa, hitting the gym, or even paying $95 annually for a meditation app that you’ll quickly forget you ever downloaded, as Cosmo points out. But Barbie makes life seem so simple, fun, and decadent. Can it be those things? Yes. Do we need to feed kids a message that self-care looks a certain way or comes with expensive bath bombs, at an age when they’d be just as satisfied playing with the box Barbie came in? Probably not.

Just In Time For The Super Bowl Halftime Show: A Look Back At J.Lo’s Triple-Threat Empire

Jennifer Lopez wears many hats. Dancer, singer, queen of the rom-com, TV talent competition judge, beauty icon, mom of twins, bae to A-Rod, wellness influencer. The list goes on. And this Sunday, she’s headlining the Super Bowl halftime show with none other than Shakira. According to Forbes, J.Lo earned over $43 million last year alone. And below, we’re breaking down the Bronx superstar’s prolific career and the big bucks she has deservedly raked in along the way.

Jennifer Lopez got her start as a dancer on In Living Color in 1991, before going on to work as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson — which she quickly parlayed into an acting career. For her starring breakout role in 1997’s Selena, she reportedly earned $1 million, after which she became the highest-paid Latina actress in Hollywood history with her role in Out of Sight. The dozens of films she has starred in, from The Wedding Planner to The Back-up Plan to last year’s Second Act, have altogether reportedly grossed nearly $3 billion.

Her music career lifted off simultaneously alongside her acting career with the release of her first album in 1999, On the 6, which went platinum within weeks of its debut. Her second album, J.Lo, hit number one on the pop charts, and she has since released six more studio albums. By 2018, she had sold 80 million records worldwide and 40 million albums. She is also the first woman to have both a number-one album and film — J.Lo and The Wedding Planner — in the same week.

And her tours are a whole other story. In total, she has reportedly earned approximately $80 million for her five tours over the past two decades. For her Dance Again World Tour in 2012, she reportedly earned over $50 million. And in 2018, she finished her 120-performance Las Vegas residency at Zappos Theater, which grossed over $100 million in two years.

Lopez is no stranger to the small screen either, having served as a judge on American Idol for five seasons. For her first season, she earned $12 million, and her salary grew to $20 million for her second. And now she serves as a judge and executive producer on World of Dance. She also starred in NBC’s Shades of Blue from 2016 to 2018.

Ever the Renaissance woman, Lopez is an entrepreneur, too. She has a clothing line at Kohl’s, a makeup collection with Inglot, and a shoe line with Giuseppe Zanotti, plus more than 20 fragrances (her perfume empire, back in 2012, reportedly was generating over $100 million per year in sales, along with a $5 million licensing fee for Lopez).

As the song goes, she used to have a little, and now she definitely has a lot. Last February, Lopez and Rodriguez bought a Malibu beach house for $6.6 million, one month after listing their Park Avenue NYC apartment for $17.5 million. Previously, Lopez lived in a NoMad penthouse, which she listed for $27 million in 2017.

Altogether, Celebrity Net Worth values J.Lo at $400 million.

LeBron James Pays Tribute To Kobe Bryant With A Powerful New Tattoo

The night before Kobe Bryant died tragically in a helicopter crash on Sunday alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna (aka Gigi) and seven other passengers, he took to Twitter to congratulate his longtime friend and fellow Los Angeles Laker LeBron James on beating his own all-time scoring record to become the third-highest point scorer in NBA history. “Continuing to move the game forward @KingJames. Much respect my brother,” Bryant tweeted, in what would be his last public message.

On Monday, the day after news of Bryant’s sudden death shook the world, James responded to the horrific event on Instagram, mourning his mentor, brother, and friend. “Man I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had,” he wrote. Now, the NBA star just unveiled a permanent tribute to Bryant: a detailed tattoo — by artist Vanessa Aurelia — on his upper leg of a black mamba snake in reference to Bryant’s nickname, flanked by roses and the numbers “24” and “8,” which he’d used on his jerseys. Beneath the illustration is script that simply reads, “Mamba 4 Life.”

The first slide of the gallery is an image of the two sitting courtside together, with James’ head leaning lovingly on Bryant’s shoulder. By way of a caption, James wrote, “My brother ♾ #Mamba4Life #RIPKobe #RIPGiGi.” It’s an incredibly moving tribute not just to Bryant, but to his daughter Gigi, whose own love of basketball earned her the nickname “Mambacita.” This likely isn’t the last we’ll see of inked tributes to the late sports hero — but given James’ close longtime relationship to the Bryant family, it is one of the most powerful.

Every Product In J.Lo’s Super Bowl Beauty Routine Was Under $50

From her “shattered glass” nails and Hustlers-inspired pole-dancing routine to deeper themes of representation, family, and politics, Jennifer Lopez left no stone unturned in her historic Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira. While the entire routine only lasted 12 minutes, the preparation took months — and we’re not just talking about choreographing those booty-shaking dance sequences. We talked to Lopez’s hair-and-makeup team on how they prepped the star for one of her biggest performances — and the exact products they used to withstand the Miami heat.

Lopez’s longtime makeup artist, Scott Barnes, told us Lopez was just as committed to her glam as she was to her choreography. “We’ve been talking about this for a couple of months, and we did dress rehearsals for her look as well,” he told Refinery29 over the phone after the show. “We kept tweaking it and making it better.”

The team finally settled on a ’90’s model-inspired look that complemented her Versace ensemble. “It was a flashback to Linda [Evangelista] and Christy [Turlington] — that Versace iconic image of the girls in the leather jackets,” he says. “Donatella [Versace] put together the outfits for the dancers and for Jennifer, and her entire look just embodies what inspired Jennifer back then.”

As for her makeup, Barnes relied on two star products: Marc Jacobs O!Mega Bronzer Perfect Tan to contour her forehead, cheekbones, and jawline, and the Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Blacquer to define her smoky eyes. “I wouldn’t have been able to get her smoky eye without that pencil,” Barnes says. “It was soft enough where you could work with it.” The makeup artist turned to his own Scott Barnes eyeshadow palette for smoking out her crease and lower lash line. He then mixed the same bronzer with his famous Body Bling shimmering lotion and slathered it across her arms and chest.

Once Lopez took the stage, Barnes held his breath through every hair flip and twirl. “It’s a nail biter for me through the whole thing,” he tells us. “What if she has a malfunction? What if an eyelash flies off?”

But her makeup stayed in place through it all, which Barnes credits to Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Loose Powder. “It’s a tricky balance,” he says of creating the famous ‘J.Lo glow’ without looking greasy. “I put powder in the T-zone, but I let the glow come through at the same time,” he adds.

To frame J.Lo’s sultry makeup look, celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton created a bouncy, waist-length blowout worthy of her final hair flip. Fighting against Miami’s humidity and the wind machines on stage, Appleton sprayed Color Wow Dream Coat Anti-Humidity Hair Treatment through her hair before blow drying it. Then, he wrapped sections of her hair around a 2-inch curling iron, set the curls at the roots with hair clips, and went in a second time with the iron to enhance specific pieces.

Right before Lopez hit the stage, Appleton ran Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Finisher comb through the midlengths and ends of her hair for more volume. Then it was time for her glam team, and adoring fiancé, to cheer from the sidelines until their next act: the after-party.

Everything You Need To Know About J.Lo & Shakira’s Halftime Costumes

Last night, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira brought down the house during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Amidst all the booty shaking, Shakira’s now-viral tongue wag, and a surprise appearance by Emme, J.Lo’s adorable daughter (along with 60 other young girls), we naturally couldn’t help but obsess over all the amazing costumes.

Slinging hits like “Jenny From The Block” and “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” J.Lo rocked a bodysuit resembling a disco ball with a silver-and-white fringe body harness on top (crystals courtesy of Swarovski), while another look featured a black moto-style leather ensemble with gold studs, zippers, and chaps, all designed by Versace — with 75,000 Swarovski crystals. With beautiful, flowy waves, smokey eyeshadow, and strappy heels, a stripper pole was the star’s biggest accessory — a nod to her iconic character in Hustlers.

With caramel-colored hair, Shakira opted for equally dramatic looks by Norwegian designer Dundas while performing songs like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever.” The first ‘fit was a red halter top paired with a matching mini skirt with a high slit, armbands, and boots crystallized by The Dan Life — it featured a mix of sparkly fringe and crystals, also courtesy of Swarovski. The second look included a gold-and-crystal sequin bra top with an “S” at the chest, a matching bolero, and high-waisted underpants with fringe. Shakira’s greatest accessory for the night? A Gibson guitar encrusted with 70,000 jet hematite Swarovski crystals. Wowza!

The duo looked like literal goddesses, and not only did we love their style, we appreciated how lovingly they embraced each other on stage. It was definitely a Super Bowl halftime show we won’t forget.

The BAFTAs Red Carpet Was Full Of Big, Bright Colors

There's no denying that sustainability has become the number one talking point of the fashion industry, especially right now, as awards season overlaps with the start of global fashion weeks. And while actors across the board have historically used the red carpet as a chance to flex their best-dressed muscles and turn out iconic looks, those behind awards season can no longer bury their heads in the sand when it comes to fashion’s carbon footprint.

As a key aspect of its pledge to become more eco-conscious, BAFTA has asked its star-studded guest list to wear an outfit they already own or to choose a more sustainably-minded option. "Sustainability is very important to BAFTA and we’re doing more than ever before," a spokesperson told Harper's Bazaar.

"The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment. From travel and food to branding and materials, BAFTA is ensuring the awards are as sustainable as possible."

We already saw fashion activism unfold at January’s Golden Globes, where Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced that she would auction off her custom Ralph & Russo suit to raise funds for the Australian bushfires, while Joaquin Phoenix teamed up with queen of green fashion, Stella McCartney, wearing a custom suit by the British designer to every film awards event of the season in order to promote waste reduction.

While the BAFTAs have a long way to go in creating an inclusive and diverse celebration of film (#BAFTAsSoWhite, yet again), this sustainability drive is a positive move for the ceremony. How did stars answer this rallying cry for a more mindful approach to their red carpet choices? Click through to find out...

Billie Eilish Has One Piece Of Mental Health Advice & It’s So Important

$

0

Just days after making history as the youngest person ever to win Song Of The Year at the Grammys, Billie Eilish is making her Vogue cover debut. In the accompanying interview, the 18-year-old singer opens up about her experiences with depression, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.

In the profile, Eilish explained that she’s always been fascinated by dark subjects. At age 11, for instance, she wrote a song about suicidal thoughts — even though, according to the performer, the song didn’t reflect her own experiences. “That was the song, at 11,” she said. “And I was totally happy. I had never felt suicidal, and I didn’t want to feel that way, but I liked the idea of writing a song about something I didn’t know about.”

When she was in her early teens, however, that changed. The singer was diagnosed depression, and she self-harmed and experienced suicidal thoughts. She said there were a number of contributing factors, including a romantic partner who treated her badly, a toxic friend group, and a dance injury. But the primary one, she said, was her body image.

“I just hated my body. I would have done anything to be in a different one,” she said. “I really wanted to be a model, really bad, and I was chubby and short. I developed really early. I had boobs at nine. I got my period at 11. So my body was going faster than my brain. It’s funny, because when you’re a little kid, you don’t think of your body at all. And all of a sudden, you look down and you’re, like, whoa. What can I do to make this go away?”

After a while, Eilish began to make changes in her life to improve her mental health — changes “that she prefers to keep private,” Vogue writer Rob Haskell explains. (Eilish has previously spoken about benefiting from therapy.) By June 2019, “the fog began to lift,” Haskell writes about the singer.

Eilish also shared an important piece of advice for people in similar situations. “When people ask me what I’d say to somebody looking for advice on mental health, the only thing I can say is patience,” she said. “I had patience with myself. I didn’t take that last step. I waited. Things fade.”
