This Simple Makeup Pairing Is HUGE In Hollywood — & So Flattering

We all know red is a staple shade for lips, but as of late, the hue has made its way onto the lids and cheeks of countless celebs — and we are digging the endless variations. The only downside: As with the gray-lipstick trend happening right now, pulling off a scarlet shadow can be tricky — make one wrong move, and you're looking more sickly than sexy.

That's what makes the shade's big sister — burgundy — so brilliant. Its cool, purplish undertone has major benefits: It can make the whites of your eyes look even whiter, and it flatters nearly every skin tone. And everyone from Zendaya to Gigi Hadid has stepped out sporting the unexpected color on their lids — so now, you're next.

But if you need a little inspiration before jumping on the trend, we got you. Just click through the slides ahead for six celebrities wearing burgundy eyeshadow looks in all the right ways; plus, the product recs for each, so you can re-create these at home.

Lucy Hale

The high-shine, near-holographic finish of this bright-burgundy eyeshadow adds an edgier layer to Hale's otherwise whimsical look. On top of that, she matches her lids to her lips — another big trend we're seeing right now. For the biggest impact, sweep on two layers, then outline your eyes in deep-chocolate liner.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Desdemona, $29, available at NARS.

Zendaya

Forget triple-threat. The actress-singer-dancer can also do her own makeup, so we're taking notes on how she blended in some warmer tones to the color, making the red effect a lot softer.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette, $42, available at Ulta Beauty.

Shay Mitchell

If you haven't noticed, sparkle flecks are the talk of the town. To make your eyeshadow look stand out, concentrate the deeper, shimmery-wine pigment on your lids, just below the crease.

L'Oréal Infallible Eyeshadow in Smoldering Plum, $7.99, available at Ulta Beauty.

Kylie Jenner

We're gonna bet that Jenner used her new Kylie Cosmetics Burgundy Kyshadow Palette (you can peep the sneak peek from Snapchat here), which includes nine red, brown, and gold shades in metallic and matte finishes, for this look. But since it won't hit shelves until October 20, you can use a blendable eyeliner pencil to create a similar smoked-out effect.

Estée Lauder Magic Smoky Powder Shadow Stick in Charred Plum, $22, available at Estée Lauder.

Gigi Hadid

A full-on approach to this color can be daunting, but it can be done, proves Hadid. A good rule of thumb: Make sure you use a budge-proof cream formula here, so the pigment doesn't fall below your lower lashline throughout the course of the night and leave you with red undereyes.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in Plum, $23, available at Sephora.

Kristen Stewart

In this throwback, makeup artist Jillian Dempsey smoked out Stewart's burgundy eyeshadow with darker hues to make it veer more plum than red. Pick up a palette with a range of burgundy shades so you can do the same.

Chanel Les 4 Ombre Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow in Candeur et Expérience, $61, available at Chanel.
