Female superheroes haven't gotten nearly enough attention, even in an age when it feels like a new superhero flick premieres every week. As fans prepare for the third Thor, Black Widow still hasn't gotten her own movie. Female superheroes are often left off the T-shirts and other merchandise tie-ins for superhero films. And parodies like this seem suspiciously like what a studio would create when tasked with making a female superhero movie.
But there is hope for the future of badass superheroines on the big and small screens. Supergirl has been renewed for a second season! A Captain Marvel movie with a leading lady is in the works! So it's officially time to get excited for the future. Whether they fly around in a cape or fight crime on the ground, they have plenty of fans eagerly awaiting their next projects.
Claire Bennet ( Heroes)
The show's tagline was "Save the cheerleader, save the world." But during the show's four-season run, she saved plenty of people herself.
Gamora ( Guardians of the Galaxy)

She truly knows how to utilize her powers for both domestic pursuits and crime-fighting.
The Powerpuff Girls
The Powerpuff Girls were definitely the most adorable crime-fighters of the '90s. And with this year's reboot, a new generation can aspire to battle evil in blue, lime-green, or pink, depending on the dynamic and politics of their friend groups.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Buffy doesn't have a cape, but she does have super-strength, super-healing power, and whatever power lets you jump up from a lying-down position without using your hands (okay, that's probably just a strong core, but it seems pretty super). As for the hero part, there's the saving people, killing her boyfriend to save the world, sacrificing herself to save her sister....she's just so much more impressive than Batman.
Supergirl
Supergirl, the helpful alien who saves the world, does so with 100% less moping than her more famous cousin. The 2015 TV incarnation of Supergirl (who returns on The CW this fall) is resourceful and responsible without being too tortured.
Storm ( X-Men)
While most superheroes will just punch you or something to get out of a chokehold, Storm will electrocute you!
The Sailor Scouts ( Sailor Moon)
Picking your Sailor Scout as a kid was about more than what color skirt you wanted to wear on Halloween. It was about which super-girl fought evil the way you'd like to fight evil.
Wonder Woman
Whether you like the more old-school, magic-lasso Wonder Woman or are super excited to see her in the upcoming movie wielding a giant sword (or equally enthused by both), this lady is a legend.
