Second-place candidate Ted Cruz is predicted to win the state’s 42 Republican delegates, according to FiveThirtyEight. The statistics site gave the Texas senator an 89% chance of taking the Badger State, to Trump’s 11% chance and Kasich’s 1%.
Cruz has support from the state’s conservative governor, Scott Walker. Walker endorsed Cruz on March 29, several months after the governor suspended his own presidential campaign.
Trump has been attempting to do damage control after a bad week or so in which he was embroiled in even more scandal than usual. On Wednesday, Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, was charged with assaulting a reporter. Later in the week, Trump faced criticism for some harsh statements on abortion rights— on March 30, he said in an interview with MSNBC that women who had illegal abortions should face “some form of punishment,” a stance he quickly backtracked on.
Polls in the state start closing at 9 p.m. EDT, and we’ll be updating here with the expected winner as it becomes clear. Ahead, catch up on the results from contests held so far. And be sure to check back to see which Republican candidate emerges the winner of the day.
